About this Belly Dance Class

Join Rosa's belly dance class and delve into movement, musicality and tradition in a warm and supportive environment. Students will also be introduced to finger cymbals and rhythms used in Middle Eastern music.

You'll improve your posture and balance, develop flexibility safely, and strengthen your entire body.

This class runs in multi-week sessions, building a community in a safe space. Each week builds on the last, and you'll learn a full dance by the end of the class!

Students have the option to perform in a dance recital at the end of the session. However, no one is ever pressured to go on stage. Those who don't wish to perform can still fully participate in the class.

Who Should Join This Class?

People of all genders, backgrounds, and body types are welcome, ages 14+. Come learn to move in a wonderful new way!

Can I Watch a Class?

For the comfort of the students, only class participants are allowed in the studio during class time.

What Level Should I Choose?

Level 1 welcomes complete beginners. You'll learn the fundamentals of belly dance, musicality, and finger cymbals through muscle-driven movement with a focus on alignment and elegance that will carry over into your daily life. Join either the Monday or Wednesday 5:30-6:45 PM class.

Level 2 is open to students who have graduated from Level 1. Each session will introduce a new skill and style of belly dance, increasing zill skills and layering abilities. Join the Monday 7:00-8:30 PM class.

Level 3 takes your belly dance skills to the next level, delving into more complicated combinations, layering skills, and footwork. Join the Wednesday 7:00-8:30 PM class.

"I leave my beginner class with huge amounts of joy and happiness after diving into a different culture, success at even baby steps toward being able to shimmy and swirl and play zills with a wonderful group of new friends." — Cathy R., student

What Should I Wear?

Yoga or exercise clothing is best. Bare feet or indoor-only dance shoes like ballet or jazz shoes. Jingly hip scarves are available to borrow or buy.

If you'd like to get dance shoes, consult the folks at Petit Jete Dance Boutique in Brunswick to get a good shoe fit. Ballet shoes are typically smaller than your street shoes. They should fit more like socks than like shoes.

If you prefer to shop online, you can use code TP49115 at Discount Dance Supply to get 10% off your order. Be sure to read the size charts carefully as each brand is different! Ballet shoes are often sized smaller than than street shoes.

What if I miss a class?

Level 1 students can attend either the Monday or the Wednesday class, as needed per your schedule.

Students enrolled in Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 can make up missed classes at another of Rosa's regularly scheduled classes within this class session, including Lunchtime Shimmy Wed 12:00 PM, or Ballet Basics for Adults Sun 9:30 AM or Tue 5:30 PM.

Tuition is non-refundable, but if you need to drop out for any reason, attendance may be deferred until the next session with credit for classes remaining from the time written notice is submitted via email to Rosa.
