Your enthusiasm and openness really impacted me. For some reason, I was able to see how beautiful we all are — and it helped me feel even more powerful to show my belly and understand how it was moving. It was HUGE that I showed my belly. It is why I wanted to take the class and even today I’m feeling so different about my body. — Emily S, student (belly baring not required) :)

About Belly Dance Class

Join Rosa's belly dance class and delve into movement, musicality and tradition in a warm and supportive environment. Students will also be introduced to finger cymbals and rhythms used in Middle Eastern music.

You'll improve your posture and balance, develop flexibility safely, and strengthen your entire body. Warm up from the inside out through movement!

You'll also learn about cultural context. What we commonly call belly dance comes from the Middle East and North Africa. Once you start to learn about the roots of belly dance, its history, and how dance fits into many different parts of life, you'll be even more intrigued! In the cultures of origin, belly dance is primarily a social, celebratory dance form, done by regular people with their friends for enjoyment and expression, as well as by professionals for entertainment at all different types of events. In this class, there is never any pressure to dance in performance. While you'll have the option to join a student recital, this dance is first for you.

Rosa's primary experience is with Egyptian style belly dance. She has visited Cairo numerous times to study, and she loves to share her knowlege to help students gain a deeper understanding of this dance form. You'll learn to move in a whole new way, appreciating your body for all that it does for you both in class and in life.

This class runs in multi-week session, developing community in a safe space. Each week builds on the last, and you'll learn a full dance by the end of the class!

Students have the option to perform in a dance recital at the end of the session. However, no one is ever pressured to go on stage. Those who don't wish to perform can still fully participate in the class.

Who Should Join This Class?

People of all genders, backgrounds, and body types are welcome, ages 14+. Students currently range in age from their teens into their 60s. Come learn to move in a wonderful new way!

Can I Watch a Class?

For the comfort of the students, only class participants are allowed in the studio during class time.

What Level Should I Choose?

Level 1 welcomes complete beginners. You'll learn the fundamentals of belly dance, musicality, and finger cymbals through muscle-driven movement with a focus on alignment and elegance that will carry over into your daily life. Join either the Monday or Wednesday 5:30-6:45 PM class. Mix up the days as needed for your schedule.

Level 2 is open to students who have graduated from Level 1. Each session will introduce a new skill and style of belly dance, increasing zill skills and layering abilities. Join the Monday 7:00-8:30 PM class with permission from Rosa.

Level 3 takes your belly dance skills to the next level, delving into more complicated combinations, layering skills, and footwork. Join the Wednesday 7:00-8:30 PM class with permission from Rosa.

"I leave my beginner class with huge amounts of joy and happiness after diving into a different culture, success at even baby steps toward being able to shimmy and swirl and play zills with a wonderful group of new friends." — Cathy R., student

Students enrolled in Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 can make up missed classes at another of Rosa's regularly scheduled classes within this class session, including Lunchtime Shimmy Wed 12:00 PM, or Ballet Basics for Adults Sun 9:30 AM or Tue 5:30 PM.
