Join us for Palestinian solidarity through dance and community.
In this pop-up workshop you’ll learn the basics of Palestinian debke, a line dance that is equal parts resistance and celebration, with Sarah Matari and Rosa Noreen at Bright Star Dance Studio.
Then, we’ll head down the street to Monument Square for the community commemoration of a year of violence in Gaza, where we’ll kick off the debke line and invite the other attendees to dance with us.
During the workshop portion at Bright Star, you’ll gain confidence in two to three foundational debke steps, understanding the footwork, how to hear the music, and when to start the steps. At the commemoration gathering, we’ll encourage everyone to join us in joyful movement.
This is a two-part event. If you aren’t able to attend both the dance workshop at Bright Star and the community commemoration in Monument Square on October 5, please join us another time. The goal of this event is presence and visibility through dance.
Adults of all genders and all ages are welcomed and affirmed. No prior dance experience is needed.
Masks are required in the studio for the safety of our entire community. Maximum is 15 people at Bright Star.

Proceeds will go to a Palestinian advocacy group in need determined by the Maine Coalition for Palestine
