Do you ever get lost in a new song — but not in a good way?
Learn my approach to getting to know your music, through and through.
In this lecture, we’ll build a live song map using my unique framework.
As dancers, we are another instrument in the band—the visual representation of the music. In order to embody that role, we need to understand the layers, the structure, the repetitions and the instrumentation of our music.
This method of song mapping can be implemented with music of all styles, equally valuable whether you’re preparing for choreography or improvisation. You don’t need any formal musical education to implement this method — just your love of a song.
Hi, I’m Rosa!
I founded Grace Academy to help dancers of all ages and stages of life take their places on stage—and in the world.
Movement makes all the difference.
Dance doesn't fix everything, but it does create more capacity for us to deal with whatever is going on around us.
When I don’t move, everything seems much more challenging–both physically and emotionally.
Bringing dance, music, and genuine human connection into my life on a regular basis… this makes all the difference in my quality of life.
My classes are about even more than dance technique. We delve into cultural context and music for deeper understanding.
I’m based in Portland, Maine, where I have been teaching dance to adults for over 15 years. Ballet has been a beloved part of my life since childhood. Belly dance changed everything about how I relate to dance when I took my first class shortly after college.
Sharing my love of dance with adults of all ages and stages of life through online and in-person classes, workshops, and pre-recorded courses is my greatest joy.
Knock out the hurdles.
When you have a strong foundation, your creativity can run free.
When you have a tried and true approach, making something new is no longer scary.
My framework for music mapping lets you establish that foundation.
Whether you’re planning a choreography or improvised performance, this method supports you.
No matter what style of music, no matter what your level of music familiarity, you can implement this method in your next piece.
How does this work?
In this interactive lecture, we’ll work through the steps that I use to build a music map.
I’ll share the methods at and you can implement them at each step. Then, we’ll check in. You can see my work, ask questions, and share your insights or challenges.
I’ll share my version of the finished product with you, as well as step-by-step instructions for implementing this framework on your own.
